Syd Vanderpool recommended I check out a website called RossBoxing.com, I might like what he has to say and I might learn a thing or two and I did just that. Not only about training and exercises, but about boxing too.
I’ve been boxing since 2012 and I never claimed to know it all, far from it, but today I read a few of his blogs and it made me think of this sport in a whole new light. In one blog he wrote about Emanuel Steward, Emanuel said, “ “I believe in a lot of boxing. You can train and work on the speed bag and heavy bag, but when you get in the ring with another fighter, it’s a different story” and it made me realize how true that is. If you want to be the best boxer you can be you have to be in that ring hitting pads, and sparring with people, not just hitting the speed ball or on the heavy bags. But that could also be said for just about anything. Weight training, dancing, singing, etc., you have to put the time into it, you can’t half ass it otherwise you’ll always be just good enough.
Another blog I read had to do with exercises and excuses, and how you really have no excuse to not exercise even in your own home. I loved it so much I had to share it on my trainers Facebook page. Ross showed us how you can do different kinds of exercises in your own home with everyday household items. For example, he used a desk chair (with wheels), a lawn mower, a snowboard during the winter, and did rollouts
He skipped inside his home, out in the snow, in his garage, anywhere, skipping doesn’t take up that much room and most rooms have high enough ceilings that you won’t hit anything. Many people will say they can’t work out because they can’t afford a gym membership or they can’t afford to buy equipment, or there’s no room, well after seeing this I can honestly say that is not true. We just need to think out of the box a little and have fun with our exercises and not be afraid to use things we have. I know I will be implementing using the tools and equipment we have at the gym as well as our own bodies in my classes.
I love his final comment in this blog, I have to add it here:
“Excuses are the nails used to build the house of failure.”
