Fight For Your Cause

On June 12, 2011, Boxing by Syd Vanderpool’s Destiny fighters got in the ring at the Delta Hotel in Kitchener to show the Kitchener-Waterloo community that there is more to being a boxer than just getting in the ring and smacking people around.

After eight weeks of intensive training with their team of professionals at the Boxing by Syd Vanderpool Athletic Centre, these boxers raised more than $6,500.00 for local charities in pledges alone. They also delighted the crowd at the charity gala with their exhibition matches in honour of their charity of choice! With percentages of ticket sales and the silent auction items being added to the total, the evening at the Delta raised a total of $9, 018.04.

Our Athletes on the Move

On Saturday June 18, 2011, Boxing by Syd’s very own Michael “The Flash”

Walchuk competed as the spectacular main event in Buffalo, NY against hometown boy Nick “Machine Gun” Brinson.

Here’s what TheBoxingExaminer.com had to say about the fight:

In a spectacular Main Event of the evening Nick ‘Machine Gun’ Brinson, 8-1-1, 5KO’s of Geneva, New York defeated Michael ‘The Flash’ Walchuk, 9-4, 2KO’s of Kitchener, Ontario by a majority decision in an eight round war for the vacant New York State Middleweight title.

Even though he lost, Walchuk is an exciting fighter and definitely worth the price of admission to watch.

Great fight, Flash! Way to make us proud!

That same night, another Boxing by Syd athlete took to the ring. Julius “Caesar” Bunda had an impressive showing as he faced off against Tony “All In” Brinson of Geneva, New York.

Here’s what TheBoxingExaminer.com had to say about Bunda’s fight:

“Bunda came out aggressively at the opening bell and was able to score early, however by the mid point of the round Brinson found his rhythm and landed hard combinations to the head and body that stunned Bunda and had him off balance and holding on.

Bunda is a deceptively hard puncher and in the second half of the round he was able to find his range and landed hard combinations to the head and body that slowed Brinson’s punch output and had him stunned as well as holding on.

Judge Eric Marlinski saw [the score] 38-38, while judges Terry Beecher-Johnson and Don Ackerman saw it 39-37 both for Bunda, now 4-1, 2 KOs, while Brinson loses his first bout and goes to 2-1.”

The Get Fit Challenge was designed to help people reach their weight loss goals through an intense, 12-Week training regime, which includes a boxing component.

Here is a testimonials from Robert and Patricia Reeves, who have both had huge success by joining the 12-Week Get Fit Challenge:

"My husband and I have had the pleasure of participating in the Get Fit 12-Week Challenge. The trainers are extremely professional, motivating, hard working, knowledgeable and provided us with a varied and interesting program that meets both of our work-out needs and goals. Our workouts are intense, but the results in terms of physical conditioning and increased energy levels have been remarkable. I would highly recommend the Get Fit Challenge to anyone who is serious about improving their overall health, energy levels and physical strength. Together we have lost over 50lbs. We plan on doing another 12 to 24 weeks in this program to maintain and exceed the results we've achieved."
