Erika Gmeindl- Trainer
"Been there, did that, doing it...right!"

“I was fat all through grade school, and life was hard and lonely for a long time.”
Feeling out of shape and isolated was the motivation behind Erika kick‐startng her fitness goals. Stereotyped because of how she looked, Erika began with small day‐to‐day changes, reading health magazines and making smarter food choices. From there, it was a tough but meaningful journey to become the person she is today that is 65 lbs lighter than when she started her journey in health.
In the years since, Erika has pushed forward and on to lifting weights so that she could “feel her muscles the next day,”which she says was a constant reminder of how hard she was working. It’ this positive atitude, and her personal experiences, that helped shape Erika’ career goals.
Specializing in weight loss and toning, Erika is a certified personal trainer, and Pilates and spinning instructor.
As the newest member of the Boxing by Syd Vanderpool team, Erika focuses on bringing a holistic approach to fitness and uses exercise as a way to correct imbalances in the body. Most recently, she’ spent time building up her knowledge in performance‐based training, hoping to shed a different light on fitness for her clients. “ exercise to make myself stronger, faster, smarter and more stable, rather than workout to make myself look a different way,”she adds, reflectng the true purpose behind performance‐based training. “that’s the mindset I want for my clients too.”Erika says she regularly reminds people to be patient and kind to themselves, something she once had to tell herself often. “ want my clients to understand that weight loss that sticks doesn’t happen overnight. You need time to develop habits to sustain a healthy weight, and I’m here to help every step of the way."

  1. Great addition to the team, Syd. It is very inspirational to men and women to have a trainer who has "been there" in the world of obesity and learned to get out of it - and stay out of it. Erika understands that being kind to oneself does not mean eating a donut to feel better, but to look after your body's needs in a good, healthy way.
